Gear types are the templates behind every gear record — they carry the custom fields, the statuses a unit can hold, and its defaults. Start with a template so new gear has something to inherit.

Sample taxonomy loads 10 realistic types (Excavator, Skid steer, Generator…) with makes, models, and starter fields — delete it in one click. Components need a type before they can be added, so the Components tab stays empty until your first type exists.
